Students from Narre Warren North Primary School are the latest to say “no” to bullying after receiving a Bullystoppers grant from the Department of Education.
Assistant principal Adam Wight said the $5000 grant will be put towards a vibrant bullying prevention program at the school
“Whilst the school does not have a bullying problem, it certainly recognises the responsibility it has in helping its students to be ready for whatever challenges they might face as they grow up,” he said.
“The grant will be used throughout the remainder of 2013 to expose students to a large number of programs (Bullybusters, Life Education and Project Rockit) all aimed at helping students to deal with bullying in whatever form it takes.”
Mr White said it is the responsibility of both teachers and parents to educate students about the dangers of bullying for everyone involved in it, either as a bystander or otherwise.
“A consistent approach to dealing with bullying is crucial,” he said.
“As such both parents and staff of the school have taken part in sessions and parents will have the opportunity to take part in cyber safety/bullying information sessions later in the term. “
