On the march for a cure

MATT Furphy’s 300km walk led him all the way to Hotondo Homes in Pakenham.
The cancer survivor left Bairnsdale on 21 July bound for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
“For each of the 13 days we made our way to various supporters, schools and clubs, in a bid to raise awareness of childhood cancer and much needed funds for cancer research,” Matt said.
In 2005 Matt was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. After a relapse two years later, he underwent further treatment, going into remission in 2008. Since then Matt has dedicated his time to fundraising setting up the Furphy and Friends working committee last year with the Rotary Club of Bairnsdale Sunrise. Furphy and Friends hopes to raise $50,000 for the cause, with all proceeds to be donated to the Children’s Cancer Foundation for cancer research.
Along the way, Matt will stopped at various schools, hotels, Kmart stores and shopping centres. He also stopped off in Pakenham with his parents and enjoyed a breakfast with the team at the Bald Hill Road store.
