TWENTY-FIVE singers from Pakenham Hills Primary School have been harmonising and learning the right pitch as they prepare for a state-wide choir spectacular.
The students and five teachers have been hard at work for two terms, learning the harmony and choreography to 20 songs that will be featured in the Victorian State Schools’ Spectacular alongside students from across the state.
The theme for this year’s show is ’There’s no place like home’ and songs include hits from Katy Perry, Lady GaGa, Fun, Glee and Michael Jackson.
Year six student Sheri said she had enjoyed the experience and was looking forward to the performance.
“It is amazing to have this once in a lifetime opportunity to perform in front of thousands of people,” she said.
The professionally staged production will include an 80-piece orchestra, 1500-voice choir, 1400 dancers, 25 lead vocalists, 22 lead dancers, 14 backing vocalists and 30 circus performers.
Teacher Kerri Noy said the students had been outstanding through the journey.
“They have fully committed to rehearsals and regular practice outside of school hours and we are very proud of them all,” she said.
“We have a team of five dedicated teachers who have worked with the students and will be performing with them next Saturday.
“We are all very excited to be performing at such a big event.”
The school offers a performing arts program and students auditioned for a position in the school choir.
There will be two shows on Saturday 27 July at 11am and 5pm. Tickets are available through Ticketek.
