Police want to clear driver following previous abduction attempts…
POLICE are urging the driver of a car who approached two young girls on McGregor Road last week to come forward.
About 6.20pm on 20 July, the two 12-year-old girls crossed the road near the rail line and gestured to the motorist in a car a thank you wave for allowing them to pass.
Investigators believe the driver mounted the kerb in heavy traffic and allegedly approached the two girls.
They had started walking down the dirt path next to the rail line when they saw the man had got out of his car.
The girls ran off before the man could speak to them.
The dark blue or green car he was driving could be a Hyundai or Holden.
Detective Sergeant Phil Jury said he did not think the incident was an abduction attempt but police were keen to speak to the man driving the car and any witnesses who saw the incident.
“At that time of night I’m guessing it was quite busy so someone driving past might have seen something,” he said.
The incident follows two abduction attempts within weeks of each other in Pakenham late last year and early this year.
In December, a man tried to grab a 12-year-old boy on Paramount Way at 8.30pm at night.
It follows a Beaconsfield Upper Primary School student who alerted her school to two men in a white station wagon wearing bandanas.
The girl was not approached or spoken to.
The man who approached the 12-year-old girls is described as being of African appearance in his late 20s or early 30s wearing a dark jacket.
Police are keen to talk to the man or anyone who may have seen what happened.
