Green thumbs go to work

GREEN thumbs should bring their gardening tools for the National Tree Day planting along the Toomuc Creek.
Cardinia Shire Council is hosting the event on the east side of the creek from 10am-12.30pm on Sunday 28 July. The local community is invited to come and join in the activity, which will aim to rehabilitate the Toomuc Creek area.
A barbecue lunch will be provided after the morning’s planting event for all volunteers. National Tree Day is Australia’s largest tree-planting and nature care event. Since Planet Ark launched the day in 1996, more than three million participants have planted 18.6 million native trees, shrubs and grasses.
Schools Tree Day, on Friday July 26, is the dedicated day for Australia’s younger generation to play their part in National Tree Day. Primary and secondary students from more than 2000 schools across Australia are expected to participate.
