Wonder of Woolies new jobs

By BRIDGET COOK

ABOUT 160 jobs have been created with the opening of a new Woolworths supermarket in Cranbourne North yesterday (Wednesday).
The new supermarket was officially opened yesterday by City of Casey councillor Geoff Ablett at The Avenue Village shopping centre.
Woolworths The Avenue store manager Susan Wright said 160 people would be employed at the store, with majority of jobs given to local people.
“We are proud that the opening of Woolworths sees us welcoming so many new people to the company from the local area providing a first step on an exciting and fulfilling career in retail,” she said.
“Our aim is to connect customers directly with produce fresh from suppliers including local growers.
“With 100 per cent of fresh meat and 96 per cent of fresh fruit and veg sourced from Australia, our store will highlight the wonderful seasonality of Aussie produce, our growers and their regions along with the best uses for the produce.
“Woolworths The Avenue will be proudly stocking wonderful produce from local producer Taranto Farms, including spinach, baby cos lettuce, savoy cabbage and Dutch carrots.
The new store is more than 3700 square metres and offers a bakery, delicatessen, seafood counter and BWS liquor store.
There will be 18 checkout including eight traditional, three express and six self-serve checkouts.
The store is celebrating the new store opening with donations to the local community including a cheque presentation to Courtenay Gardens Primary School.
