Cultural centre goes green

THE Cardinia Cultural Centre is going green.
The entertainment complex had a supersized solar hot water system installed last week, which is expected to save 7.2 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year.
“The technology being used at the Cardinia Cultural Centre is a larger version of a domestic solar hot water system” said Cardinia Shire Council environment officer Brett Munckton.
“Solar hot water is a great way to reduce bills and energy consumption at home, or in a commercial environment.”
Hot water from the new system will supply the commercial kitchen and public bathrooms and be used by the venue’s cleaners.
The $30,000 solar hot water upgrade is being jointly funded by the Federal Government’s Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism through the Local Government Energy Efficiency Program and Cardinia Shire Council.
The Cardinia Cultural Centre was chosen as a funding recipient due to the large quantity of hot water used by the business.
