Trailwalker, a cake walk

By LIA SPENCER

A TEAM of four joined forces to smash the time limit at the Oxfam Trailwalker last month.
The Oxfam Trailwalker held on 19 April is a 100km course from Jells Park in Wheelers Hill to Wesburn Park in the Yarra Valley, which is to be completed in 48 hours.
Joy Drake, the manager of Fernwood Gym in Narre Warren, said she and her team of four were rapt when they beat the time limit by 28 hours.
Ms Drake was joined by Barb Lamb as well as Stephen Campbell and Gary Bowden , who were last minute- replacements for injured members Emily Cooper and Jessica Bull.
The group not only beat the time limit, but also raised a lot more than the $1000 requirement for the event.
“Money is still coming in, but we’ve raised about $3000,” Ms Drake said.
Money raised will go towards Oxfam, an organisation helping disadvantaged people overseas.
It was Ms Drake’s fourth year participating in the event.
“It’s such a great organisation to be involved with,” Ms Drake said.
“It’s also a good challenge and it keeps you fit.”
She said the team already has made plans to participate next year and hopes to run for most of the event and complete it in 18 hours.
