THIRTY-TWO paintings were sold through the Yakkerboo Art Show on the weekend, in what was a showcase of some of the region’s finest talent.
Pakenham-based artist Leigh Rust won gold in the landscape section for Steady Flows The Stream and Jeanette Adams won the contemporary section with Spray at Williamstown.
Yakkerboo Art Show president Bronwyn Fleming was thrilled with the success of the show and judge Grissel Walcaggia, cultural planning officer for the City of Greater Dandenong, said she was overwhelmed by talent and creativity on display.
Gembrook artist Sue Jarvis picked up the Glenn Madden Local Artist Prize, sponsored by Pakenham Racing Club through a community grant, for Wired Up, Shire Building Officer.
Cardinia mayor Brett Owen had earlier chosen that entry, of construction work at the new shire offices in Officer as his choice to be purchased by Cardinia Shire.
“I wanted to choose a local artist and something that represents our shire, so this was perfect,” he said. “And it’s in my home town of Officer as well.”
Ms Fleming said more than 100 artists entered 387 artworks and there was great attendance by art lovers over the weekend.
“We have great financial support from the Cardinia Shire through the Festivals and Community Arts Events Funding Grants, however for the continued growth and success of the show we would like a few more organisers,” she said.
