Getting smart with cars

A FREE course is being offered to Casey women to help put them in the driver’s seat when it comes to car maintenance.
The Women On Wheels national program is coming to Cranbourne this month to help demystify the techniques of automotive maintenance for women of all ages.
The program is designed to make ladies more mechanically literate and to offer practical guidelines for motoring safety and vehicle maintenance.
Hosted by Cranbourne Holden, the hands-on evening will have women checking oil levels, changing tyres, jump starting vehicles and checking and correcting tyre pressures. Jacqui Morrison-White, from Women on Wheels, said more than 11,000 women across the country had completed the workshop since it started 12 years ago.
“In 90 per cent of cases, women are the major influencers in the purchase of the family car, and due to a lack of confidence or perhaps due to stereotypical attitudes, some women have never been exposed to the requirements of basic automotive maintenance,” she said.
“We hope to help change this.
“All ladies, from teenagers about to get their license to mums with extra precious cargo to elderly drivers, will benefit from this valuable information evening.
“For ladies who are interested in this night, I’ve got to say, it’s a fun girls night out.
“There’s always a friendly atmosphere and the ladies always have a great time.
“What’s more, supper and a free car first aid kit are provided.”
The workshop will be held on 7 May at Cranbourne Holden from 7pm to 9.30pm.
Numbers are limited to 50, so register early so you don’t miss out.
