COMMUNITY centres and neighbourhood houses will mark Neighbourhood House Week with a series of morning and afternoon teas and events.
THE shire’s community centres will open their doors from Monday 6 to Friday 10 May.
Cardinia Shire mayor Cr Brett Owen says the week-long celebration gives the community a great chance to discover the many courses and activities on offer at these centres.
“I encourage residents to pop in to their local neighbourhood house or community centre during Neighbourhood House Week,” Cr Owen said.
“These centres do great work. They bring a wide variety of free, or very affordable educational and recreational activities to the community. They also allow people to connect with one another in a warm and welcoming place.
“We’re never too old to learn a new skill, get a new hobby, or meet new friends!” said Cr Owen.
Cardinia Shire’s community centres and neighbourhood houses are jointly funded by council, the Department of Human Services, the Adult Community and Further Education Board, and by running low cost activities for the community.
Living Learning Pakenham will be open for people to browse a display of the history of neighbourhood houses in the area and morning teas will also be held during the week.
