CITY of Casey residents are gearing up as they prepare for the annual Riding of the Bounds – and the council is hoping to rein even more participants in.
The City of Casey Council is encouraging residents to saddle up and secure an early bird registration for the Riding of the Bounds, with early bird entries soon to close on 26 April.
In its 24th year, the Riding of the Bounds will take place on 5 May and is set to have riders from all over Casey flocking to support the tradition.
The eight kilometre horse riding course will see riders on horseback, or in a horse-drawn vehicle, take part in the scenic ride, which will take approximately two hours to complete.
While enjoying the picturesque views, riders will also be inspecting the borders of Casey.
A meeting of both the Casey and Cardinia mayors will occur – where the report on the boundaries is announced ceremoniously by both.
City of Casey Mayor Amanda Stapledon encouraged anyone who is available to gear up and get involved.
“This wonderful community event is a great opportunity for horse riders to admire Casey’s beautiful landscape while unifying to embrace one of our great traditions,” she said.
Cr Stapledon will be participating in the ride, along with City of Casey councillor Geoff Ablett.
At the conclusion of the ride, participants will enjoy a barbecue as well as an awards ceremony where prizes will be given for a range of categories.
All riders who participate in the event must wear an Australian-approved equestrian safety helmet.
The event will take place on Sunday 5 May with registrations opening at 8am for a 10am kick off.
Riders will depart from Hillcrest Christian College, 500 Soldiers Road, Clyde North.
Early bird registration fees are $15 for individuals, $25 for families of no more than four riders, and $60 for groups up to 10 riders.
After 26 April, fees are $25 for individuals, $40 families and $80 for groups.
