A CROWD of people gathered to watch two tow trucks and Pakenham CFA over-turn a huge concrete truck on its side on Henry Road on Wednesday afternoon.
CFA got the call that a Boral truck carrying concrete had tipped over at a roundabout in Pakenham at about 9am. It took until 12.30pm to turn the truck upright.
A spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria said the 35-year-old truck driver was conscious and breathing when crews arrived and he was conveyed to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition.
Witnesses nearby heard the “big bang” and others saw the truck tip over as it came around the corner near a vacant block of houses.
One witness, a tradesman working in one of the new houses, said that it was lucky his crew were working a few doors up and that the houses were empty at the time of the incident.
“The truck hit the roundabout, clipped it, and tipped over,” he said.
“He wasn’t going fast.”
Another tradesman who saw the truck coming around the corner said the crash was incredibly loud.
“The truck seemed to tip over a fair way from the roundabout,” he said.
“The truck hit the gutter and the weight of it tipped it over.”
They said the truck driver forced his way out through the windscreen of the truck.
Pakenham Highway Patrol police were also on the scene and closed off the street until the mess from the truck was cleaned up and the truck was upright.
Residents in neighbouring streets gathered to watch as the tow truck workers hoisted the truck upright, which took about 20 minutes when the leads were attached.
Witnesses told the News that it was lucky no one occupied the houses near the crash and that no-one was walking their dog when it occurred.
“You don’t see that every day,” one of the tradesman said.
