Clean and green

EARTH-friendly products, plant give-aways and children’s activities are some of the things on at the Cardinia Shire Council’s Sustainability Expo this weekend.
Cardinia mayor Brett Owen said there was something for everyone at this year’s expo.
“There will be lots of opportunities for residents of all ages to learn about environmental sustainability and healthy living as well as some fantastic products to buy,” he said.
“Residents will find they may pick up tips to make small changes in their lives, which make a difference to the environment.
“Come one, come all to this great expo and learn about the vast array of solutions available, and be inspired,” Cr Owen said.
Highlights of the expo include Fairtrade products including jewellery and gifts, a bike riding activity course, electric pushbikes and human powered vehicles, GippsTAFE energy trailer with renewable energy alternatives on display, solar alternatives from panels to LED lighting, energy and water saving solutions with electrical and plumbing trades available to answer queries as well as local organic foods and wines and blending smoothies with pedal power.
In the spirit of sustainability, residents are encouraged to bring their reusable bags and consider leaving their car at home.
They can use public transport, ride or walk to the event. Those who ride their bike could win one of the spot prizes on the day.
There is also an eWaste recycling day at the council’s Purton Road depot from 9am to 2pm on the same day.
The Sustainability Expo is on from 10am-3pm at the Cardinia Cultural Centre, Lakeside Boulevard, Pakenham.
