Lights, barbie, party time

DOVETON residents Ruth Murray and daughter Jenny Colvin ensure a merry Christmas for all through their annual Christmas barbecue which coincides with their Christmas lights display.
For over13 years Ruth and Jenny have run an annual Christmas barbecue for neighbours, local community members, family and friends at their home in Doveton.
More than 150 people are invited to the lunch, which also provides guests with the chance to view the amazing Christmas lights display.
Anthony Byrne Federal MP caught up with the duo to promote their popular Christmas lights display.
“One of the great things about the Christmas period is when people like Ruth and Jenny work together with neighbours to put up Christmas decorations around their houses for the benefit of the entire community,” Anthony Byrne MP said.
Mr Byrne said it events like these which help family traditions to continue.
“I wish to thank all the households in Holt that go to the effort of putting up decorations around their houses in the lead up to Christmas,” he said.
“One of the great festive traditions is walking around or driving around to a neighbour’s house to admire their Christmas lights display and see the smiles on all of their faces.”
Mr Byrne congratulated Ruth and Jenny for their ongoing effort.
“I wish to commend Ruth and her family on their huge pride on their neighbourhood and a commitment to bringing people together to build a stronger sense of community,” he said.
“I hope many local residents feel inspired by their commitment to the local community and work out ways that they can contribute as well.”
