THE water has dried and houses repaired, but many Casey residents are still coming to grips with a tumultuous event from 12 months ago.
On 4 and 5 February 2011, floods ripped through the City of Casey, inundating houses and businesses.
Volunteers from the Narre Warren SES were flat out as they attended more than 700 jobs across the municipality.
Lynbrook copped more than 180mm of rain within 24 hours and other badly hit suburbs included Narre Warren, Narre Warren South, Berwick, Hampton Park and Cranbourne.
Nursing homes were evacuated, roads were blocked off and schools closed.
Emergency relief centres were opened at the Casey Civic Centre in Narre Warren and the Casey Indoor Leisure Complex in Cranbourne for evacuated Kooweerup residents.
While the floods brought heart-ache for some, it brought others together.
One year on, City of Casey council, local organisations and affected residents are still working together to fix the damage and prevent such damage from occurring again.
