Parkers hold up their end

Hampton Park held their own this week winning six of the eight games played. With bowling on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday it meant the selectors had to juggle the available players around to make up the sides.
Tuesday, Division 2 played at Dandenong City and quickly took a liking to the slower grass green, winning on all rinks. Heather Naismith, Marion Battaglia, Ellen Smith and skipper Bob Naismith accelerated during the middle part of the game to win by 24 shots. Geoff Ampt, Ann Westwell, Neville Hendrie and skipper Christine Hendrie motored away to a 25-shot win. Gail Wilcock, Jim Westwell, Helen Lambert and skipper Denise Eastick finished strongly, getting up by just one shot.
Tuesday, Division 3 was up against a strong Cranbourne side and was unable to score any points off them. Ian Bartlett, Rhonda Diaper, Gwen Clough and skipper Grace Hogan fell away near the end to lose by nine shots. Dot Carr, Geri Graafsma, Keith Damon and skipper Alan Wilcock got to within one shot and then faltered to go down by eight. Mavis Kelly, June Damon, Ray Wood and skipper Mary Hose could only win two of the last eight ends to go down by five shots.
Southern Districts Night Bowls in our first game of the round saw the Parkers finish with all the points against Mulgrave. Ray Leggett, Ann Westwell, Peter Hayden and skipper Neville Hendrie strung together seven ends in a row to win by four shots. Jim Westwell, Christine Hendrie, Ray Wood and skipper Geoff Ladner pulled away at the end to win by seven shots. Bob Naismith, Kingi Horua, Geoff Ampt and skipper Denise Eastick took the lead at the end to win by three shots.
Thursday, Division 2 played at home against Dandenong Rec/ RSL with a 34-shot win plus the 16 points. Heather Naismith, Marion Battaglia, Ellen Smith and skipper Bob Naismith battled hard all day to get their four-shot win. Gail Wilcock, Jim Westwell, Helen Lambert and skipper Denise Eastick had a very good day with a 20-shot win. Geoff Ampt, Ann Westwell, Neville Hendrie and skipper Christine Hendrie were struggling until they picked up 14 shots in four ends to win by 10.
Thursday, Division 3 had the home side Mordialloc take the game to the last end, where we prevailed by just one shot to win the game. Mavis Kelly, June Damon, Andrew Brandolin and skipper Ray Wood missed by only one shot. Kingi Horua, Geri Graafsma, Rob Woff and skipper Grace Hogan played catch up all day, going down by eight shots. Dot Carr, Rhonda Diaper, Brian Diaper and skipper Alan Wilcock restricted the opposition to mainly singles in their 10-shot win.
Saturday, Division 3 saw Waverley Golf come to our club and they did a very good job on our 16-second green to win by 13 shots. Keith Reid, Heather Naismith, Lionel Williams and skipper Neville Hendrie dropped a four on the second last end to lose by one shot while Rico Storm, Ellen Smith, Geoff Ladner and skipper Denise Eastick came back to force a draw. Rayden Storm, Christine Hendrie, Mark Paton and skipper Warwick Hardy had a ragged finish to lose by 15. Ian Bartlett, Andrew Brandolin, Zak Storm and skipper Graham Slight stuck with it to squeeze out a three shot win.
Saturday, Division 5 had a very good win away at Beaumaris by 33 shots, picking up 16 points. Gerry Cox, Jim Westwell, Jeff Crozier and skipper Geoff Ampt trailed all day to go down by 12 shots while Vince Kovacic, Richard Pallett, Stan Hatch and Larry Simpson had an excellent 19-shot win. Ann Westwell, Helen Lambert, Paul Barna and skipper Peter Hayden also had an excellent 19-shot win. Russell Stannard, Ken Cobden, Rob Woff and skipper Bob Naismith came from seven shots down to get up and win by seven shots.
Saturday, Division 7 played Ashburton in an extremely one-sided game where our home side won by a massive 81 shots. Dot Carr, Ian Kitt, Ray Leggett and skipper Fred McBrian lost only four ends in their 23-shot win. Not to be out-done, Les Unwin, Gail Williams, Keith Damon and skipper Allan Unwin went six shots better to win by 29 shots. Rudy Oost, Bill Webb, Gail Wilcock and skipper Alan Wilcock finished strongly winning by nine shots while Anne McKay, Len Bell, Brian Diaper and skipper Marion Battaglia recorded another good win by 29 shots.
