POLICE have made numerous arrests for weapon, drugs and assault offences one week into a three-month operation in the City of Casey and Greater Dandenong.
A dedicated team of police officers have hit the streets in Dandenong, Cranbourne, Narre Warren, Springvale and Noble Park as part of Operation Safe Suburbs. This is the first time police have run the operation, which involves uniform and plain clothes police on foot, riding bikes, in cars and travelling on trains to reduce criminal activity and to increase community safety in and around the targeted suburbs and surrounding areas.
Southern Metro Region Acting Senior Sergeant Ian Pregnell said the objective of the operation was to continue to make people feel safe in their communities and to arrest and charge anyone involved in criminal acts.
He said police have already made several arrests since the operation began last week.
“We want people to feel safe in their homes, to be able to walk down the street without being afraid of becoming an assault or robbery victim,” Acting Sen Sgt Pregnell said.
“The members involved in this operation will be out and about at all hours, moving quickly from one location to another, wherever they are needed.
“Since starting Operation Safe Suburbs this week, we have already made three arrests, one person was arrested for drugs and two for possession of prohibited weapons.”
