Inquiry goes for growth

By Bridget Cook
LOCAL businesses and community members are being encouraged to have their say to the Victorian Competition and Efficiency Commission (VCEC) manufacturing inquiry.
The VCEC has recently released a draft report for public consultation as part of the Victorian Manufacturing – Meeting the Challenges inquiry.
The inquiry is a key part of the state government’s approach to revitalising and growing the manufacturing sector in Melbourne’s south-east.
The south-east currently produces about 44 per cent of the total Victorian output of manufactured goods and is renowned as a centre for innovative manufacturing.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich said the state government was committed to supporting and revitalising the south-east’s manufacturing industry.
“South-east Melbourne’s manufacturers are innovative, quality-driven and committed to their industries,” she said.
“Their forward looking ideas, understanding of current constraints and practical solutions will be pivotal to the outcomes of this inquiry.”
Ms Peulich said the coalition was committed to putting in place the right policy settings that will revitalise south-east Melbourne’s manufacturing industry.
“The Baillieu Government will consider the inquiry’s recommendations after the final report is received in September,” she said.
