Margin call

By Jarrod Potter
A LAST quarter fightback by the Cranbourne reserves saw them over the line by the narrowest of margins against Berwick.
Facing a 13-point deficit going into the last quarter, Cranbourne rallied to squeeze past Berwick at the final siren by a point.
Cranbourne reserves coach Shane Baker said he told the players at three-quarter time to play hard and the right result would come from it.
“We were about 20 points down in the second quarter, we might have got it to around 20 points at the last break.”
“The game was changing, we had broken down their game-plan and stuck to ours. We kept to what we were doing and ran over the top of them in the end.”
Instrumental in the win were Robert Beadel, Arun Elysee and Michael Theodoridis.
“Arun ran off the half-back flank well and fed to Beadel in the middle when he was shifted there in the second half,” Baker said.
“Theodoridis took big strong marks down forward and used his size to our advantage.” On the prospect of these blokes getting a run in the seniors, Baker said they are all close to selection, if not there already.
“Arun has played a couple of times in the seniors and the other two will be knocking on that door for sure,” Baker said.
Cranbourne faces Narre Warren this week at Casey Fields, a prospect Baker believes will challenge the Eagles reserves.
“They’ll be a tough side,” Baker said. “They’re certainly one of the top two sides in the competition at the moment. They’ve got a good reserves side so we need to be prepared for a big match.”
