50 golden years

AFTER 50 years of marriage, golden couple Eric and Glenys Urand are still best friends.
The Narre Warren South residents mark their 50th wedding anniversary on Good Friday, but will be celebrating on Saturday with 50 of their closest friends and family.
Eric, 74, and Glenys, 70, met when Glenys was only 14 at a Sunday picnic.
They have had three children, eight grandchildren, moved towns, travelled the world and made several memories along the way.
“The secret is that you will have difference of opinions, but you have to learn to work things out,” Eric said.
Eric used to work on the railways and work for the Monash Council for 15 years, while Glenys was a school secretary in Clayton West before they had three children, Jeffrey, Greg and Rod.
They are now the proud grandparents of eight kids ranging from ages one to 19.
The couple said they enjoyed travelling, having had their first trip to the UK in 1991. They have since been back several times and made many trips to the US, where their son Rod lives.
They recently returned from a 31-day cruise on the Queen Mary to celebrate their milestone, and said they eventually want to travel to the Pacific Islands.
“It was a great trip,” Glenys said, “and hopefully we have many more.”
