Lakeside turns 10

By Emma Sun
DESPITE the less than favourable weather on Sunday, Lakeside’s 10th birthday celebrations were a huge success.
The event, which was enjoyed by more than 500 people, was co-ordinated by the Lakeside Residents Group and financed by Delfin Lendlease and Lakeside Community Branch of Bendigo Bank.
Chairperson of the Lakeside Residents Group Kathy Burgstahler said families who came along to the free event loved everything about it.
“The children loved the face painting, kindly provided by Bunnings and the jumping castle, kindly provided by Lakeside Community Branch Bendigo Bank,” Ms Burgstahler said.
“The adults loved the free showbags, filled with stuff from the Lakeside businesses and the community and Shavan’s Tandoori Indian Restaurant was handing out free takeaway meals – everybody loved that.”
Those present also enjoyed a beautiful cake, provided by Ashleigh Samargis, owner of Ashleigh Louise Designer Cakes.
“She made a cake which was absolutely amazing,” Ms Burgstahler said.
“People were coming up to look at it and it didn’t just look good, it tasted fantastic too.”
Mayor George Blenkhorn, Delfin project director Sharon Coates and Ms Burgstahler cut the cake together.
Local councillors including Cr Collin Ross and Cr Graeme Moore, and Cr Moore brought along the entire Rotary Club of Pakenham, whose members helped set up for the day and provided a free sausage sizzle.
The SES, CFA, the police and representatives from the Department of Transport went and showed support.
“It was a great show of strength from the entire Cardinia community,” Ms Burgstahler said.
“We really appreciate that they came along to show not only what they offered but their support for the event.”
