Trail to tackle hardship

– Lia Bichel
FOUR women are urging local residents to dig deep as they prepare to complete a gruelling 100km challenge to raise money for Oxfam this weekend.
Four trainers from Fernwood Gym in Narre Warren have joined forces to complete the Oxfam Trailwalker, from Jells Park in Wheelers Hill to Wesburn Park in the Yarra Valley, in 48 hours or less.
Money raised will go towards Oxfam, an organisation helping disadvantaged people overseas.
The group raised $4000 so far for Oxfam, which is double the amount they originally anticipated.
Aish Ravi, 20, is the youngest of the group, and the oldest lady is 43. Other members are Joy Drake, Marleen Simpson and Barbara Lamb.
Ms Ravi joined the group late, replacing one of two ladies who was injured while training.
“We are all generally fit because we are trainers, but we are still hoping nobody else receives any injuries,” Ms Ravi said.
Ms Ravi said the group can walk or jog during the challenge, but they planned to run as much as they can.
“I have run a marathon before, so from previous experience I know that it is easier to run as much as you can rather than stop and start again,” she said.
“We plan to run most of it, but I am sure we will slow down when it comes to midday.”
The Oxfam Trailwalker will be held in three locations in Australia. Anyone wanting to participate or support the event can visit the website on www2.oxfam.org.au.
