Timor

Cr Geoff Ablett brought forward the proposal in an effort to assist the Timorese as their main method of communication is through radio.
“When I heard they were looking for some assistance in that regard I had a talk with the members of the station,” Cr Ablett said.
“We have the largest number of east Timorese living here in Casey. Sixteen different cultures have their own shows on 97.7FM. One of our aims is to promote good will and multiculturalism.”
Casey Radio will be raising money to send a trained technician to East Timor to help set up the radio equipment and train some locals on how to use it.
Cr Ablett said everyone has been very supportive of the proposal, especially those at Casey Radio.
“It’s created a really good feel about the place that we’re helping people less fortunate and that’s what we’re about,” he said.
