POLICE have called an unprovoked attack on a group of teens “disgusting” and “cowardly”.
At 3.45am on 6 February, three men and a woman, all aged 18, were walking in a car park at a Berwick hotel when they were approached by a group of seven men in a silver coloured Mitsubishi Pajero.
Police said two men got out of the vehicle and asked the group of four for a cigarette. One of men in the group gave them a cigarette, then the two men said thankyou and shook hands.
When they turned to walk away, one of the teens was hit in the back of a head with a bottle and another one was assaulted. One man was taken to the Dandenong Hospital with serious facial injuries while the other received minor injuries.
Detective Senior Constable Guy Matheson from the Narre Warren Crime Investigation Unit said it was a random attack.
“It was an unprovoked and cowardly attack on four unsuspecting good-mannered people,” Det Sen Con Matheson said.
“It was absolutely a random attack. It’s disgusting.”
Mr Matheson said while random attacks in the City of Casey were not common they did occur occasionally.
He said there were no witnesses to the attack but urged anyone with information to contact the police.
The group of seven men in the Mitsubishi Pajero are described as being aged 18 to 21, and of Maori appearance.
Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Detective Senior Constable Guy Matheson on 9705 3115.
