Play it safe

By Nicole Williams
Some roads remain closed, due to floodwaters, while many were damaged and weakened in the heavy rains.
“While the majority of roads are now open, we still urge people to drive carefully and not take unnecessary risks,” Casey Highway Patrol Acting Sergeant Allen Inderwisch said.
He said police had been working with VicRoads and local councils to check on road conditions and hazards.
City of Casey chief executive officer Mike Tyler said council officers were inspecting and assessing roads to ensure they were fixed as soon as possible.
“Due to the extensive amount of rain, a number of roads in Casey are still inaccessible and some have been damaged,” he said.
Repairs will be prioritised according to the damage.
Acting Sgt Inderwisch said damage was still being uncovered as water levels fall.
“Now that floodwaters have receded, we’re locating some areas that have been damaged on roads and bridges which were previously un-noted due to the high flood level,” he said.
Drivers can call Triple-zero if they find damaged roads or hazards.
A list of road closures is available on the VicRoads website, www.vicroads.vic.gov.au.
