Great night of racing

CRANBOURNE Harness Racing Club played host to more than 2000 patrons at their Kids Night Out last Saturday under lights.
Cranbourne Harness Racing Club chief executive David Scott was delighted with event and said those who were present also witnessed a solid night of racing.
“We had a great night, with 2000 patrons on course, which is more than we expected given the weather forecast,” he said.
“We had a great atmosphere on course with lots of kids and families.”
The Kids Night Out themed race meet included a host of free activities such as jumping castles, chair-o-plane, mini golf, pony rides, face painting, and animal farms. It also included free show bags for the first 250 children through the turnstiles.
“We provided a range of entertainment for the kids,” Scott said.
“The meeting provides a great opportunity to give something back to our racing community in the way of family fun.”
On trackside, Scott said punters witnessed the headline act in three-year-old horse Devilish Smile who won race the Cranbourne Trainers Bonanza, beating highly regarded pair Sauve Stuey Limbo and That’s So Irish, finishing in second and third place respectively.
Scott said Devilish Smile beat a “handy” field and seemed to be on course to compete in the Victorian Derby later this month.
Race one’s The Kids Night Out Pace Final was dominated by a New Zealand contingent of horses, with Ophirs Dream and Christian Cross claiming first and second place and Everydaysagoodday, fourth. Kamwood Pete came third.
Scott said the Cranbourne Harness Racing Club races again on Wednesday 19 January and is looking forward to its St Patricks Race Day in March.
