Minaret scoops pool

By Bridget Cook
MINARET College’s two cricket teams were winners in more than one way at the Victoria Super 8 state school final last week.
The schools talented team of Year 7 and 8 students and the Grades 5 and 6 boys teams both won their grand finals at the MCG last week.
Minaret physical education teacher and teams coach Mohamed Moustafa said the school became the first Australian college to win two cricket state titles in one year.
He also said Minaret was the only Islamic college to win such a title in Australia.
The Year 7 and 8 students cruised to a 61-run over Balwyn High School in the grand final.
The Grades 5 and 6 boys beat last year’s winners, Colac Primary School, 180 runs to 132, to secure the Victorian title.
“It was my side’s aggressive batting, confident bowling and fielding that saw us through in the final,” Mr Moustafa said.
