PITTED against more than 1000 athletes in the Australian All School Athletics Championships held at Doncaster over the weekend, four locals put in solid performances.
Tara Cheyne (Cranbourne), Leilani Clarken (Doveton), Mikaela Davis (Narre Warren South) and Daniel Dupre (Berwick).
Cranbourne’s Tara Cheyne competed in the under-14 discus and finished in sixth place, throwing 29.63m, while Daniel Dupre from Berwick finished sixth in the under-14 200m sprint. Doveton’s Leilani Clarken competed in two events – under-18 shot put and under-18 hammer throw. She came fifth in the shot put throwing 11.90m and fifth in the hammer throw with a 39.16m launch.
Narre Warren South’s Mikaela Davis came fifth in the 200m sprint with a time of 26.68.
New South Wales took home the inaugural championship cup (762) following the introduction of a new points system this year. Victoria finished in second place (717) while Queensland (624) came third.
