Woodwork with an Easter message

YEAR 7 students from Hillcrest Christian College spread the spirit of Easter last month when they visited the Villa Maria nursing home in Berwick.
The woodwork students presented each resident with Easter gifts as well as a personalised message and a carved wooden cross.
The Hillcrest students also came prepared with Bible messages, which they read to the elderly before presenting the passages to them.
Year 7 woodwork teacher Bruce Wallace said Easter was not just about getting chocolate Easter eggs but about the empty cross of Jesus, which the students symbolically gave to the residents.
“The Bible verses were of a similar Easter theme with one in particular from John 3:16: ‘For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son that whosever believed in Him shall not perish but have eternal life’.
“I was really impressed with the maturity of the students and the way in which they interacted with the residents.
“It’s great to get out into the local community and brighten up someone’s day. “The students got a real kick out of it and I am sure the nursing home residents appreciated it,” Mr Wallace said.
