Women party for cancer

By Callan Date
A GROUP of local women will let down their hair and get together next week for a party with a cause.
Narre Warren resident Danielle Murrihy is organising the fun and is encouraging all Casey women to join her in the fight against female cancers and attend her Girls Night In event.
The popular night, held in many locations across the State and overseen by the Cancer Council Victoria, is an ideal way to raise funds for research into breast and gynaecological cancers.
Ms Murrihy said guests at the Narre Warren event would be treated to a glass of sparkling wine on arrival, a show bag for each guest, finger food, wine tasting, displays from leading party plan companies as well as lots of raffles and door prizes.
“I decided to do it after chatting to a friend on an online forum whose husband had been touched by cancer,” Ms Murrihy said.
The night will also feature guest speakers who will talk about how they have been touched by cancer and how helpful the support from family and friends can be.
Ms Murrihy said she organised a much smaller Girls Night In event last year with only a handful of friends but decided to give it a real go this year.
“I thought to myself if I am going to do it I am really going to blow it out of the water,” she said. “The event last year only raised about $80 and I was really disappointed with that.
“I want to raise as much money as possible for the Cancer Council.
“We will have wine tastings from Let’s Unwine Berwick, The Party Food shop will be supplying hot finger food, Curves Gymnasium will be there and are donating a $250 gym membership,” Ms Murrihy said.
She said women were encouraged to get a few friends together or just come along on their own and meet some new faces.
Ms Murrihy said she had already sold about 50 tickets and was hoping to sell as many as possible before the big event.
“I am also after more donations or offers of help and support,” she said.
All the fun will take place on Friday 19 October at Hallam Valley Primary School, Fleetwood Drive, Narre Warren, from 7.30pm.
Tickets cost $10. For details contact Danielle on 8790 3316 or dmurrihy@bigpond.net.au
