The Narre Warren SES was called out to Hampton Park on Sunday morning when a tree fell on a moving car during a weekend of wild weather.By Rebecca Fraser
THE Narre Warren SES weathered the storm at the weekend after receiving more than seven callouts during a night of wild winds.
In one incident, a tree fell on a car as a motorist travelled along Pound Road in Hampton Park about 3am Sunday.
Luckily the driver escaped unharmed but it took SES members two hours to clear the tree and move the car.
Narre Warren SES media officer Kanny Lee said the man was very lucky to walk away from the incident unscathed.
She said at its peak the SES unit had up to 10 members in the field dealing with fallen trees in Berwick, Doveton and Narre Warren.
Ms Lee said the emergency calls started on Saturday afternoon and continued into the evening. Most of the trees had fallen over driveways and none had hit homes or caused significant damage.
Ms Lee also urged residents to check their gutterings and trees and prepare for winter.
“That way when it rains heavily they won’t get flooding. It is also a good time for people to have a look at their trees and tidy them up and take care of any loose branches,” she said.
