Wild one hits the stage again

Chris Brown rehearses with co-star Hannah Sabbatucci for the musical production of Shout!Chris Brown rehearses with co-star Hannah Sabbatucci for the musical production of Shout!

CHRIS Brown will be shouting out aloud when he takes to the stage from Friday.
The Narre Warren resident is excitingly gearing up for his role in the musical Shout! – a tribute to the legendary Australian rocker Johnny O’Keefe.
CLOC Musical Theatre is staging the show and is keen to celebrate 50 years of Australian rock ‘n’ roll with classic tunes such as Rock Around the Clock and Shake Rattle and Roll.
Chris will perform as a drag queen in the show, which is being held at the 500-seat Alexander Theatre at Monash University’s Clayton campus.
Show writer John Michael Howson has been working closely with the cast and has been a great help, according to Chris.
“John Michael has been fantastic, giving us the history and background of Johnny O’Keefe and the era in which he lived. It has given us an amazing perspective on Johnny O’Keefe’s life and times,” Chris said.
By day Chris is better known for his role as a manager at Safeway, but he will be dancing up a storm during Shout!
“CLOC always has the highest production values. The sets are great and include a replica FJ Holden,” he said.
Chris is trained in singing, jazz and tap and has had successful roles in several performances including Cabaret, Pirates of Penzance, My Fair Lady, The King and I and Little Shop of Horrors.
CLOC Musical Theatre has achieved solid success in recent years, including winning the 2006 Production of the Year award from the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria.
Away from the stage, Chris enjoys cycling, travel, set design and construction – but his love of the theatre is number one.
Shout! opens next Friday and runs until Sunday, 27 May at the Alexander Theatre, Monash University, Clayton. For more information call 1300 362 547.
