Well wishes for baby Catherine

THE story of abandoned baby Catherine has pulled at the heartstrings of most people.
But grade three students at Hillcrest Christian College were so touched by the story they felt compelled to do something.
Sparked into action by nine-year-old Isabella Luke and with the help of classmates and their teacher, the students sent their well wishes to the baby in the form of handmade cards.
Nurses at Dandenong Hospital discovered the newborn girl on Mother’s Day after hearing her cries from outside a hospital door. The baby, believed to have been born the previous night, was wrapped in towels and had been placed in a cardboard box.
The Clyde North students also signed a teddy bear with their thoughts and messages for Catherine, a name given to the baby by hospital staff.
“I hope you like all the special gifts I organised for you. I hope you like the teddy bear I got for my class to write special notes for you,” Isabella’s card read.
“I hope you have a wonderful life because you are a special little girl and I will never forget you.”
A hamper, containing all the cards, the teddy bear and a framed picture of the grade three class, was delivered to the hospital by Isabella and her mother.
