THE Fountain Gate campus of Eumemmerring College has produced a state finalist in German poetry.
The school recently hosted 55 students from across southern Victoria in the southern metropolitan regional finals of a statewide German Poetry Competition run by the Victorian Association of German Teachers.
At that competition, one of the shining stars was the host school’s own Annemarie Tulloch of year seven who took out first place and will now head to the Austrian Club in Heidelberg for the state final.
German teacher at Eumemmerring Fountain Gate Claudia Liebner said it was a thrill for her to see Annemarie get all the way to the state final.
“It would be perfect if she can be the first placegetter for her age group in Victoria,” she said.
“I will be there with her family to support her.”
Competitors are required to learn two poems in the final, one of their own choosing, and will be judged on pronunciation, phrasing, interpretation and the degree of learning they can demonstrate about the poem.
The final will take place on Saturday, 27 August.
