Volunteers thanked

THE invaluable contribution of local volunteers was recognised last Thursday with a celebration at Doveton’s Myuna Farm.
More than 150 people turned out as part of the International Day of Volunteers activities and a big thankyou was given to all those who donate their time and energy to community services in Casey and Greater Dandenong. Volunteer-coordinator with the Kalimna Training and Community Support Centre in Narre Warren, Di Kelly, said the day celebrated the contribution of volunteers right across the southern region.
“There were aged care volunteers, disability volunteers, mental health volunteers as well as Meals on Wheels.
“They (volunteers) do such great work in the community and if it was not for the volunteers a lot of these services would not be possible or people would be stuck at home,” he said.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford also attended the event and said all levels of government should be extremely grateful for the work of volunteers.
“Without volunteers there would be an added cost to a lot of services at all levels of government.
“We need to continually recognise the work of our volunteers because they do such a great job in our community,” he said.
