U2 can see a chest shaved with pride

A BERWICK man shaved his chest ‘in the name of love’ last week to score two free tickets to see Irish rock band U2 perform in Melborne.
But it was a close shave for Steve Jenkins, 36, as he was initially radio station Triple M’s second choice in the ticket giveaway competition.
“I was their second choice, as the first guy did not have enough chest hair,” he said.
In order to win the tickets, Mr Jenkins had to shave the band’s name on his chest and go into Melbourne’s Triple M studios to present the evidence.
Mr Jenkins said he would be taking his wife Kirsty to the concert as she helped him shave his chest.
“I started to do it myself but then I started to stuff up the ‘U’ so I said, ‘honey, you had better come in and help me’.”
The lifelong U2 fan will see the band perform live on 25 March and has also gone into the draw to become part of the band’s crew to help set up its huge stage the day before their two shows at Telstra Dome.
Mr Jenkins said shaving his chest had been a small price to pay for the two general admission tickets and he was looking forward to celebrating his 37th birthday the day before the concert.
“I lined up for tickets this time around, but they had sold out,” he said.
“This is a real bonus and I guess a real dream come true for me.
“I have had my chest shaved before, so it will grow back and it was worth it,” he said. Mr Jenkins said he had all U2’s albums.
The last time U2 played in Melbourne, at Waverly Park in February 1998, Mr Jenkins said he and his friends sat outside the venue and listened to their music after missing out on tickets.
“We all said next time they came back we would get tickets.
“I thought I had missed out, but now I can go,” he said.
