A COMMUNITY effort resulted in the planting of hundreds of native trees in Narre Warren South on Friday.
Members of the Oakgrove Community Centre joined local students from Trinity Primary School and Telstra representatives to replant the garden outside the new Telstra sub exchange building on Oakgrove Drive.
Telstra Metro area manager for Melbourne’s South Marc Green said one of the conditions of the construction of the sub exchange was that Telstra replace the vegetation lost during building works.
“This was a real community effort,” Mr Green said.
“We wanted to get the locals involved to give them the added incentive to look after the garden in the future,” he said.
Community Centre coordinator Antonietta Peel said the day was a great success and congratulated everyone involved.
“The students had a great time and the day was really well done.
“We just wanted to beautify the area and thought it would be nice to put something back,” she said.
