Thieves hit footy club

MOSSGIEL Park Junior Football Club is picking up the pieces after thieves raided their Endeavour Hills clubrooms last week.
A door on the Gleneagles Drive pavilion was forced sometime between 8pm on 21 September and 7.30am the next day with more than $3500 worth of items stolen.
Police said about $1000 of VB cans and pre-mixed drinks were taken along with a DVD player, stereo system and cordless public address system.
Club president Philip Arnold said the burglary occurred one day before they were due to remove all their property in anticipation for the clubroom changeover to a cricket club.
Mr Arnold said the theft was a setback for the club but would not hurt the club’s operations for the 2008 season. “Between the two cricket clubs that use the rooms and ourselves we are all looking at combining to improve security around the pavilion,” Mr Arnold said.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Wilcox of Narre Warren Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) said he believed locals were involved in the crime. He asked for anyone who was offered cheap alcohol or had any information about the crime to contact Narre Warren Police on 9705 3114.
