THERE were smiles all around at Fountain Gate Primary School on Tuesday – even if they were more orange than white.
As part of the Marketfresh Schools Programs, all students tucked into fruit and vegetables, with a speaker from the Wholesale Melbourne Fruit and Vegetable Market visiting and setting up different fruit and vegetables for all students to sample.
The program is designed to educate children about the importance and nutritional qualities of fruit and vegetables.
Students were each given a different kind of showbag containing a mung beangrowing kit and lots of healthy recipes and pamphlets expressing the importance of eating fruit and vegetables.
Parents and friends covered the cost of the day, which enabled all students to attend for free.
All parents and grandparents were also invited to attend the information sessions and watch their children experience different taste sensations – and pull some interesting facial expressions in the process.
