Tea time for charity

THERE were cups of tea aplenty this week when the Casey North Community Information Support Service (CNCISS) took part in the World’s Biggest Morning Tea.
The fundraising event for the Australian Cancer Council saw 50 local support group workers and politicians come together in Narre Warren to enjoy a morning snack.
Everyone donated a gold coin but CNCISS volunteer coordinator Jo-Ann Seadon said the morning was also a good opportunity for community organisations to network and forge new ties.
“It was a good chance for people to catch up and obviously it is a very good cause,” she said.
At last year’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, more than 280,000 Australians helped raise more than $7.2 million for the fight against cancer and set a new world record for the world’s largest simultaneous tea party — a feat recognised by the Guinness Book of Records.
This year, the Cancer Council is looking to smash its own world record by inviting more people to take part in the event, and help raise vital funds for research, education programs and support services for those diagnosed with cancer, their families and carers.
