DOVETON’s inaugural show has been deemed a resounding success with more than 5000 people turning out on Sunday.
The show will now become an annual event following the strong turnout.
Rebecca Lambert communications officer with Doveton and Eumemmerring Neighbourhood Renewal Initiative, who organised the event, said they hoped the day would be even bigger and better next year.
“We were completely overwhelmed by the turn out as we only really expected 1000 people.
“We ran out of show bags really quickly but other than that we all coped really well,” she said.
Ms Lambert said parking had also posed an issue and the streets had been packed up for kilometres.
“People were walking four kilometres to come along and everyone was very keen to join in on the show atmosphere.
“It was great to see people from other communities coming along and seeing what Doveton can do.
“It was a very successful day and everyone had a great time,” she said.
Myuna Ward councillor Brian Oates also attended the show and said he was very pleased that the event had taken place.
“Cranbourne holds the alternative to the Melbourne Cup and now Doveton has the alternative of the Melbourne Show.
“It was a great last function for me to attend before the elections and I hope it becomes an annual event,” he said.
