AUSTRALIAN Sister Cities president councillor Kevin Hill highly commended young people who took part in this month’s 2006 Australian Sister Cities annual conference at Devonport, Tasmania.
Six members of the Casey Youth Ambassadors were among those commended.
Cr Hill said that during his visit to the youth conference venue he was told that this year’s group was the best that leaders had worked with.
“We saw the bonding of some great young people. They will carry the skills learnt and the Sister Cities word back to their communities,” he said.
“Seeing the success of the youth conference was one of the highlights of my two decades in the Sister Cities movement.”
Cr Hill said Casey director of community services Jennie Lee had initiated the youth sector.
“Ms Lee in 1990 as a young girl asked me to support a youth component in the national Sister Cities movement.
“This was taken up and the youth conference was born at the 1990 Sister Cities conference held in Devonport,” he said.
