Shed burglars strike home

By Melissa Meehan
NARRE WARREN police have expressed concern about the increasing number of shed burglaries in the area during the past month.
In three separate incidents, thieves have broken shed doors and windows and used bolt cutters to cut through locks to steal power and garden tools, lawn mowers, grass cutters, and a triton workbench.
The stolen goods were valued at over $6000.
The shed burglaries follow the theft of a silver and black Suzuki motorbike valued at $20,000 from an unlocked garage in Brisbane Street, Berwick.
Narre Warren Senior Detective Sergeant Ian Wilcox said home owners should ensure that any shed and garages were secured with good quality locks and that anything stored in sheds was marked so it could be easily identified. “Shed and garage security has become an issue in the area, but if these steps are in place hopefully it will deter thieves,” Det Sgt Wilcox said.
Police are seeking assistance from the public in relation to thefts in Endeavour Crescent, Endeavour Hills between 2pm on 10 September and 6.30am on 11 September and Goodall Court, Berwick between 9am on 2 September and 9am on 9 September.
Senior Sergeant Wilcox said it was possible the two thefts were related.
A property in Tyrell Place, Berwick also had its shed burgled between 9am on 15 September and midday on 16 September.
Three vehicles also had their tyres slashed during the thefts, and police believe the incident may be part of a personal vendetta.
Anyone with information about any of the above crimes is asked to contact Narre Warren Police on 9705 3114.
