Senior nominations sought

LOCAL residents have been invited to nominate outstanding senior citizens for the Premier’s Senior of the Year Award.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley has called for the nominations that close on 27 August.
“If you know an ordinary senior who does extraordinary things for the community then the Premier’s annual Senior of the Year Award is one way you can celebrate their achievements,” Ms Graley said.
She said people were invited to nominate seniors who excel or are contributing in any aspect of life.
“Previous award winners have included a volunteer at a local centre for disabled adults, a power-lifter, a survivor of the Ash Wednesday fires and an art teacher who gives painting lessons to people in aged-care facilities,” she said.
The nominee must be an Australian citizen, a resident in Victoria, aged 60 years or more and who, in the past two years, has achieved something extraordinary or performed exceptional service to the community.
Nomination forms can be obtained by calling 1300 135 090 or by visiting www.seniors.vic.gov.au.
