VICTORIAN Minister for Education Services Jacinta Allan toured two Endeavour Hills primary schools last Thursday as part of a whirlwind visit.
First stop was Mossgiel Park Primary school where Ms Allan spoke to Year six leadership students about her role as a young politician and encouraged students to achieve their goals and ambitions.
Principal John Wall said she also spoke to staff about the school’s full time student welfare officer and how this had benefited the school.
“We are about one of 250 schools that now have a fulltime welfare officer and she was very interested in getting feedback about how this was going.
“The visit also opened her mind and she would have seen the needs of schools in the southeastern corridor,” she said.
Ms Allan then visited Southern Cross Primary School. During a tour of the school a group of students showed the skills they had acquired through the innovative Information and Communication Technology Program.
Teacher Esther Hall, who developed the program and recently won a Microsoft Innovative Teacher of the Year Award, also spoke with Ms Allan.
The MP then spoke with staff from the Teacher Professional Leave team about their Action Research project “Enhancing Literacy through LOTE, ICT and the Environment.”
Principal Averil Moore said it was an honour for their school to share some of the outstanding work of the staff and students with Ms Allan.
