School’s back so slow down, warn police

SCHOOL is back and local police have issued a warning for motorists to be aware of speed limits around local campuses.
Sergeant Pat McGavigan from Casey Traffic Management Unit said special speed zones operated between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm and 4pm outside most schools each weekday.
“Just be aware of the signs around school zones and adjust your speed accordingly,” Sgt McGavigan said.
“Kids don’t think twice before running out on to the road, so drivers need to be aware.”
Meanwhile, traffic in neighbouring Cranbourne is set to be busy this weekend due to the MRA Cranbourne GP Run.
The City of Casey and MRA Cranbourne GP Run organising committee are working together to ensure a safe environment for motorcyclists and families to enjoy the event on Saturday.
Traffic in Cranbourne will be affected for the MRA Cranbourne GP Run, from 8am to noon.
During the event, the southbound carriageway of High Street (South Gippsland Highway), Cranbourne, will be closed and all highway traffic will share the northbound carriageway.
There will be no access to High Street between Stawell and Sladen streets. South-bound traffic should use Clarendon Street to access Centro Cranbourne Shopping Centre because right turns will not be permitted at Stawell Street or Sladen Street.
Motorcyclists taking part in the event are advised to arrive in Cranbourne between 8am and 9.45am. After the wave off from 10am, the convoy of motorcycles will ride south on the South Gippsland Highway to Tooradin and then continue to Phillip Island.
