STUDENTS from an Endeavour Hills Primary School are the state champions in a national story dance competition.
The 94 grade three to six students from St Paul Apostle South Primary School won the title in the Wakakirri Story Dance Festival at Vodafone Arena last Thursday.
More than 600 schools across Australia entered the competition with the Endeavour Hills youngsters now set to challenge for the national title.
The St Paul Apostle South students performed an original piece entitled What’s Your Dream.
St Paul’s principal Pauline D’Astoli said the students’ hard work and fantastic performance had paid off.
“After several months of rehearsals over winter on the school playground, the students’ dreams came true,” Ms D’Astoli said.
The students competed against 13 other primary schools at the Victorian finals last Thursday night.
Ms D’Astoli said when head judge Bridget Bantick announced the gold medal winner, 300 parents and teachers from Endeavour Hills erupted into loud cheering.
“It was an incredibly entertaining, charismatic, fun and relevant story dance about following your dream,” she said.
Wakakirri school coordinator Kate Rampant said the students had exceeded all expectations both on and off the stage.
“We have had an amazing experience in which our students’ talents have reached the highest standards. We are looking forward to the national final,” Ms Rampant said.
The Wakakirri national final will be televised on Network Ten on Saturday 10 December at 2pm.
