A four-wheel drive drove straight up an Endeavour Hills embankment on Friday following steady rain.By Rebecca Fraser
A DRIVER was lucky to escape unharmed last Friday when his four-wheel-drive ended up an Endeavour Hills embankment.
Wet weather is believed to have contributed to the accident, which occurred about 7.40am as the motorist drove through the roundabout at Hallam North and Heatherton roads.
Narre Warren North resident Peeter Kallista captured photos of the early-morning incident and said he wanted to warn residents about the slippery roundabout.
He said both he and his son had experienced quite a few near misses at the busy intersection and urged drivers to be careful during the wetter months.
Mr Kallista also called on Casey Council to deal with the problem of the slippery road surface before someone was seriously hurt.
“It seems the south-west quadrant has always been slippery in the wet since they built it and drivers can be caught out unless aware of the problem,” he said.
“This is not the first time this has happened, but it’s not always as spectacular. I encourage people to take more care on that corner and drive through the roundabout slower. Council also needs to address the road surface and possibly install a coarser material.”
