Road works for bridge

THE recently opened Bryn Mawr Boulevard Bridge is set for more works.
Both the Berwick and Beaconsfield communities are set to benefit from the road improvements with the Federal Government recently announcing $995,000 will be spent on road works.
The money will come from the City of Casey’s request to the Government for residual funds from the $10 million Bryn Mawr Bridge project, which came in $1.7 million under budget.
The funding commitment includes $695,000 towards the finalisation of duplication of Kangan Drive from the existing eastern end of the dual carriageway to the Bryn Mawr Boulevard-Soldiers Road roundabout.
Money will also be spent on constructing a left turn slip lane from Bryn Mawr Boulevard onto Beaconsfield-Berwick Road.
Casey mayor Colin Butler said it was exciting news for local motorists and residents.
“The opening of Bryn Mawr Bridge in July has already helped alleviate congestion in Berwick Village and greatly improved accessibility to vital facilities for local residents,” Cr Butler said.
“These new road works will further improve mobility and reduce travel times for locals.
“The City of Casey is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia so we are extremely pleased the Australian Government is assisting council to achieve improvements to much-needed local road infrastructure,” he said.
Adding the cost of the two new projects to the cost to complete the Bryn Mawr Bridge, the Australian Government will have committed more than $9 million out of the commitment of up to $10 million from its AusLink Strategic Regional Program.
